Top Ways To Repair Your Credit On Your Own

Posted on: 15 October 2019

Living with bad credit can impede you from being able to get credit lines and loans, but it often feels like there is nothing you can do to improve the credit score you have. Fortunately, this is not the case. With the right steps and effort, there are several ways you can improve the score you have right now, and you could even try to do this on your own. Here are the top steps to work through as you begin trying to repair your credit.

Get a report from all three bureaus

There are three main bureaus that are considered credit reporting bureaus, and all three bureaus may have different information about you. The reason this occurs is due to the way creditors post to bureaus. Some may post to all three, while others might only post to one. Additionally, when creditors look up your credit score after you apply for lines of credit, they may only look at a report from one of the bureaus instead of all three, and this is why you might see recent inquiries on some of the reports and not others.

Look for errors

Once you have all three reports, you may want to compare them to see the differences. After doing this, start looking for any types of errors they may contain. An error can include something that is not yours, something that does not belong on the reports any longer, or something that does not have the correct information. Each error you find is something you will have to dispute.

Get the addresses and type of letters

Next, you will want to get the addresses of all three credit bureaus and begin typing letters of dispute. You will need to send a letter to each of the bureaus that has the wrong information. This means that if all three bureaus have one detail that is wrong, you must dispute the detail with all three of them. To dispute an item, you can simply type a letter and send it in the mail to the bureaus. They must legally evaluate and investigate every dispute they receive and come up with a solution for it.

Disputing items on your credit report is really the only way to repair problems at this point, and it can be a very time-consuming process. If you prefer, you could hire this out, and this would actually be the best option you have, as expert credit repair companies are great at helping people repair their credit.

When to Use a Financial Advisor

Hi, my name is Melinda Jacobs. My husband John and I are in our 50s, and we both still work full-time jobs. I used to be of the mind that we should put every spare penny into an interest bearing savings account. That is, until we started going to a financial adviser. Our finance consultant has showed us how to manage our money in a manner that is going to not only sustain us today but also in the future. I would like to share some of what we’ve learned about saving and managing money in today’s economy and why the days of putting money into a savings account is not really practical. I hope that what I have to share proves to be beneficial to you.
